    Suicide Assessment: The Skills, Tools & Challenges

    with Bindu Khurana-Brown

    Suicide at its core is a challenging topic to consider and raises the red flags of clinicians everywhere.  For many, there is a complex relationship related to our understanding and work with individuals who are struggling with these thoughts and urges.  Our self as a therapist can come into question as we grapple with using the right words to appropriately assess while maintaining our joining with the client. This 2-part six (6) hour training meets the BBS requirements for suicide assessment and intervention required of all clinician and will walk you through how to navigate this complex dynamic.  


    Educational Learning Objectives


    1. Attendees will learn at least three (3) precursors to assess for suicidal thoughts

    2. Attendees will explore at least three (3) interventions to utilize with some experiencing an increase in suicidal ideation

    3. Attendees will consider and develop at least four (4) self-care aspects to regulate their own counter-transference


    BIO:

    Bindu Khurana-Brown has been within the behavioral health field for over 20 years working with individuals throughout the life spectrum. Clinical experiences have included work with adolescents, couples, families, older adults and work within a diversity of diagnostic and socioeconomic groups.  This clinical experience has been enhanced by supporting practicum students to further the knowledge base of our upcoming colleagues.  In addition to clinical work, Bindu has been teaching as Adjunct Faculty for almost ten years primarily focusing efforts on graduate students pursuing LMFT and LPCC post graduation licensure.  Bindu resides in San Jose with her husband, children and dog.


    Fees: $75 for members, $125 for non-members
