    Zoom Chapter Meeting

    Treating OCD in Private Practice

      with Dr. Max Maisel, Ph.D.

This presentation delves into the effective treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) within a private practice setting. It combines evidence-based practices, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of treating OCD. The presentation covers a range of topics, including the efficacy of ERP and ACT for OCD, differentiating types of OCD, CBT conceptualization of OCD, gold standard assessment methods, and detailed guidance on using ERP and ACT clinically. Participants will learn to explain OCD to clients, comprehend the theory behind treatment approaches (emotional processing vs. inhibitory learning), create fear hierarchies, conduct exposures and response prevention in sessions, and integrate mindfulness and ACT techniques. The presentation is designed to be experiential and relevant to enhance clinical skills.

    Educational Learning Objectives

    1. List two gold standard OCD assessment instruments

    2. Explain the difference between emotional processing and inhibitory learning in treating OCD.

    3. Explain to clients the OCD cycle and why ERP works for this diagnosis
